Scripture Quote: “They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim cruel words like deadly arrows. They shoot from ambush at the innocent; they shoot suddenly, without fear.” Psalms 64:3-4 (NIV).
There are those of us who have cut someone else down because it inexplicably made us feel better about ourselves - It's not biblical, or nice, but there are times when we all fall that far short. Words that belittle are cruel words that can permanently hurt someone else. We can even be cutting merely by the tone we use when speaking seemingly innocent words. We need to think before we speak and pray against the sins of the mouth, which comes from a meanness in our hearts.
We should remind ourselves that God's Holy Spirit dwells within us and He hears every word that we speak. Do we actually want to share with God our cruelty, or our slanderous remarks meant to harm, because that is exactly what we do? We can choose to only speak words that are true and kind, which would be the product of hearts that are hungry for harmony and love. Someday the entire world will be silent before Almighty God - No excuses or arguments will remain. We can all do better, if we’ll be mindful of our words. Take time now to admit that your careless, cruel remarks are sin. Our God is a forgiving God.
Today’s meditation: Speak words that heal.
Memory Verse: “Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgress-ion.” Psalms 19:13 (NIV)
