Love
Scripture Reading for the day: I Corinthians 13:1-13
Scripture Quote: “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.” Ephesians 5: 1-3 (NASB)
In the church community, believers commit to fellowship of people who honestly love one another. We seek the meaning of the gospel as our guide in all issues. We are imitators of our Lord and seek peace and want to build up the body of Christ.
Outside of our church, we can set aside some of our personal time to be used to help others in need, just as Jesus did. Though those we help may vary, the principle is always the same - By being an example of God’s love for all people, we affirm the strength and love Jesus has given us. Everyone needs mercy, but sometimes tangible assistance is needed too. There are people with great lack in housing, food, employment, and personal dignity. We are sometimes needed to help in the form of a “hand-out” and sometimes in the more lasting “hand-up.”
Christians can never be an idle or a stingy people – The Lord has called us to a higher standard. God, who has given us everything we have in the first place, knows our hearts and minds and he also looks for cheerfulness in our attitude toward giving of our resources.
Today’s meditation: Open your heart to sharing God’s love - Become the person God intended you to become.
Memory Verse: “If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.” I Corinthians 13:1 (NASB)
