That We All May Be One

Scripture Quote: "I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them." John 17:9-10 (NIV)
Christ's prayer for His church extends throughout all the generations and includes us today. Jesus asks for great blessings: unity, peace, love and eternal life. He wants us, as adopted children, to acknowledge Him as the Messiah, be saved by His sacrifice and be able to share His glory in heaven. It's a good bet that Jesus' prayer to the Father would have to be answered. He asked that we might be one, even as They are One.
That oneness is the part of us given by God that finds joy in sacrifice and ultraistic actions for others. When we feel compelled to bless another person on His behalf, we temporarily abandon the other, usually more dominant part in us that is selfish and controlling. Totally separate and unblemished by our usual character, this blessedness exists as a portion of the best we can be. Believers love and obey God because we know that someday we will be permanently changed and finally completely united with Christ in His kingdom of glory.
Today’s meditation: Thank God we are part of His forever family.
Memory Verse: Hebrews 2:11 (NIV) "Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters."
