Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:17-32 (All Scripture quoted is NIV)
Scripture Quote: Because that, when they knew God, they have not glorified him as God or given thanks: but became vain in their thoughts. And their foolish heart was darkened. (Romans 1:21)
Anyone with breath has already experienced God and exists within and because of His works of creation. Some people simply refuse to walk honestly in awe of the creation they are surrounded with. As in most issues, vanity and self-reliance dominate. The concept of submission to a sovereign authority is detestable to the "self-made-man”. However, the proud of heart have cut themselves off, by their own acts, from the source of moral strength and peace only God can supply.
Sometimes, even Christians do not show or feel the proper gratitude for the blessings we receive by God's providence, but become proud and assume credit for the good things in our lives. Gradually, the good becomes less so and our choices begin to beat us down. We always pay a dear price for turning away, even temporarily, from the Father who sustains us. Humanity craves recognition and praise when we deserve none of the blessings we enjoy. Too often we are vain, relying on our own abilities and denying God the praise and adoration He alone deserves. We must never forget that without God, we can become a depraved and reprobate people. Only through God’s indwelling Spirit and His pure mercy do we exist, or have any hope for eternal life.
Today’s meditation: We are always dependent on God's grace.
Memory Verse: For you were heretofore darkness, but now light in the Lord. Walk then as children of the light. (Ephesians 5:8)
