Scripture Reading: Psalms 78:1-8
Scripture Quote: Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. Deuteronomy 4:9 (NIV)
The Word is clear in Its admonishment to teach God's truth to our children and grandchildren. Like throwing a life preserver to the drowning person, our faith should be urgently interjected into all aspects of our family life and conversation. Many of us didn't have any wise instruction passed down to us by our parents and grandparents. If we repeat that pattern, it causes a gap in the flow of wisdom; the ball is dropped for future generations.
Through God's Word we can stand in the gap and get the ball rolling again. Beginning with ourselves, we can become disciplined to receive instruction and to nurture our own spiritual maturity. We can then teach our children God's inspired message and fill our homes with His precepts and His promises. Change takes place one step at a time. Whatever our hearts hold dear will surface as important instruction if we are diligent in sharing with our family. Our society is now reaping the results of its neglectful lack of wisdom in immorality and ignorance of God’s Word, but we can change that if we will.
Today’s meditation: Share God’s wisdom with your children.
Memory Verse: But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop. Luke 8:15 (NIV)
