Think of Heavenly Things

Scripture Quote: Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:2-3)
 
Christians aren't controlled by our bodies because we deny immoral or indecent physical desires. We are also in a position to prevent ourselves from being greedy, which is the same as worshipping idols. God will never bless a person that still behaves inappropriately, who  allows the flesh to rule over him. We all did these things before we believed in Jesus. We also allowed anger and evil to dominate us. But now we have given up our old way of life, with those old habits. Christians can choose to stop saying insulting or cruel things about others, stop lying to each other and choose love above anything else.
 
We are now in Christ, slowly dying to sin, as we become more and more like our Savior. It doesn't matter what we have done in the past. Christ is all that matters and He now lives in all of us. Our own understanding can’t discern the sacred, but only comprehends it by the influence of the Spirit of wisdom and revelation - Without the influence of God’s Holy Spirit, we could never become wise. Be grateful, because God loves us and has chosen us to be His own special people. We should respond with humility, forgiving each other, just as God has forgiven us.    
 
Today’s meditation: Like Christ, be loving and kind to your neighbor. 
 
Memory Verse: He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created. (James 1:18)

The Believer’s Heart

Scripture Quote:
 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. (Ephesians 3:16-18)
 
God's Word conveys ideas of infinite importance to mankind. Academics try to explain it, but the mystery within it can’t be successfully verbalized. Believers take nourishment from the Bible incrementally - When we reread a certain passage for the umpteenth time, suddenly it pierces past our minds into our hearts and it transforms us. Every word seems to have come immediately from heaven - We need to study and continually learn from it all our lives. Love, mercy and truth can never be redundant.
 
Christians often face trials too great for our natural strength and temptations which we do not have the power to resist without help. We are given Divine strength from the Holy Spirit and verbal ammunition as we memorize verses from God's Word. The believing heart is the endless residence of God, in which dwells all power, all love, and the mystery of the eternal Trinity. All this resides in each of our hearts that believe in Jesus! 
 
Today’s meditation: Set your goal on God’s best for your life.
 
Memory Verse: All your works praise you, LORD; your faithful people extol you. (Psalms 145:10)

Scripture Quote:
 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them. (John 3:36)
 
A Christian's soul pants for immortality and the full and perfect bliss of heaven. We envision life there as expanded, matured, purified and made more glorious. It is difficult to comprehend the nonbeliever who neither enjoy true life or happiness here, nor in the world to come - They will never see heaven. God's wrath against sin is not vindictive as human wrath is, but it is the normal consequence of any opposition to God's Law. Blatant resistance to God will incur terrible effects in this world and the next. Those who refuse to bend their knee will be doomed to a disastrous fate.
 
Those under the wrath of God are under condemnation. No one can escape God's condemnation unless they have received salvation through Christ's sacrificial death. Those who will not believe and repent of their sinfulness, will remain in that miserable condition even after death. They will encounter, with no one to help them, all that is terrible in the wrath of Almighty God. Rather than come to Jesus, who died once for all and who would gladly receive them, they will forever remain condemned in their pride. How unbelievably sad the arrogant, foolish sinner is.
 
Today’s meditation: Rejoice and give thanks for your salvation!
 
Memory Verse: Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient. (Ephesians 5:6)

Finding Happiness

Scripture Quote:
 After all, to the person who is good in God's sight, he gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy, but to the sinner he gives the troublesome task of acquiring and accumulating in order to leave it to someone who is good in the sight of God. This also is pointless and chasing after the wind. (Ecclesiastes 2:26)
 
Although people think happiness can be found in our fleshly desires, we find the eventual achievement of those yearnings to be destructive and unfulfilling. Since we are surrounded by evil, Believers must deliberately decide not to walk in the counsel of ungodliness. The world defends self-gratification and competitive aggression as acceptable common practice - Getting out ahead of the next guy rules, so that achievement and prosperity have become the gods of this world. 
 
Redeemed Christians are aware of the existence of an invisible world where we can draw our strength and purpose from an unseen God who guides us on the path to righteousness. Believers have the joy of the Lord and the wisdom in His Word to sustain us throughout our lives. Our inner man is blessed with a sacred indwelling of God's Holy Spirit. Although difficulties and disappointments are part of life, Christians know that life on earth is temporary. We are destined for great joy when our Lord and Savior comes again. Jesus will take us with Him into glory and show us what real happiness is.
 
Today’s meditation: Happy is the heart that belongs to the Lord.
 
Memory Verse: But the righteous rejoice and exult before God; they are overwhelmed with joy. (Psalms 68:3)

    Bio: Toni Smothers has written articles for “Total Health”, “Let’s Live”, “People In Action” and “The North American Mentor” magazines.  She is a member of the Faithwriters.com writing community and was previously the editor for the teen section of their on-line magazine. She has written many programs, sermons, and skits and has edited several websites. Additionally, she has answered hundreds of questions for GotQuestions.org, a biblical resource site.
