Scripture Quote: His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire. (Matthew 3:12 NIV)
 
Do we forget the minus side to God’s end game sometimes and go about our lives thinking that we are fortunate to have heard and believed the Gospel, relieved to know that we will spend eternity with our Savior, completely comforted knowing that eternity with Him will be our reward. But, wait a minute, is life in this world supposed to be all about us Christians? What about the multitude that exists without the blessed knowledge of salvation?
 
Since we can claim the kingdom of heaven not as an earned reward, but as a gift of pure unmerited mercy, like we tell our kids, we need to share! We know that every person will be sentenced to a state of everlasting happiness or misery. Are we so hard-hearted to the victims of Satan that we won't attempt to find the way into our brother's troubled thinking? We can't actually justify that selfish, frightened silence. We are not ignorant to the nonbeliever's fate and our lack of mercy for his destiny can hardly be seen as loving our neighbor as Jesus instructed. There comes a point when we must face our insecurities and submit in humble obedience to our Lord - suffering eternal punishment is horrible enough for us to get over our timidity.
 
Today’s meditation: Love your neighbor as yourself.

​                                                                        The Fear of God

Scripture Quote: When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades. Revelation 1:16-17 (NIV)
 
Many of God's servants responded to various manifestations of God in sheer terror. Spiritual prophets, Kings, and apostles required supernatural strength through Divine intervention just to stand before the holiness of the Lord. Daniel had a holy vision and he was terrified. (Dan 8:17) Peter was immediately awestruck by Jesus' power and of his own sinfulness in the presence of Divine Holiness. (Luke 5:7-8) These are a few demonstrations of Believers fearing their God.
 
We attempt to fit the fear of God into a more palatable concept of simply honoring and revering Him. While reverence is certainly one aspect of the fear of the LORD, the bible also speaks of terror, falling as if dead and many aspects of compelling, sudden and violent fright. All this is not to say that our God isn't also loving and kind, because he most certainly is. Yahweh is intimate and personal - At the same time, awesome and beyond our comprehension. The fear of God is the heart-stopping realization of His Majesty and glory.
 
Today’s meditation: Real fear of God’s gigantic power is appropriate.
 
Memory Verse: Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. Ecclesiastes 12:13 (NIV)

​                                                The Danger of Wealth Without Charity

Scripture Quote: "If I have put my trust in gold or said to pure gold, ‘you are my security,’ if I have rejoiced over my great wealth, the fortune my hands had gained, if I have regarded the sun in its radiance or the moon moving in splendor, so that my heart was secretly enticed and my hand offered them a kiss of homage, then these also would be sins to be judged, for I would have been unfaithful to God on high.” Job 31:24-28 (NIV)
 
The account of the rich man tells us he was an uncharitable man who was unmoved by another's torment. He lived out his life in the ease and comfort that wealth can provide a person - Lazarus, not so much.  Since the rich man was without mercy and the love of God was not present in his heart, he had no place in heaven after his death. But Lazarus was escorted into paradise to live forever with God.
 
Financial status is irrelevant - We can give cheerfully towards the welfare of those in need from whatever resources we have. The compassion we show others demonstrates God to them. We need to conform in our hearts to the spirit and mind of Christ. We who know the Lord and bear His fruit in this lifetime, will stand victorious with all the saints in heaven after our death.
 
Today’s meditation: Look for opportunities to share.

​                                                                                  The Believer’s Heart

Scripture Quote: I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. (Ephesians 3:16-18)
 
God's Word conveys ideas of infinite importance to mankind. Academics try to explain it, but the mystery within it can’t be successfully verbalized. Believers take nourishment from the Bible incrementally - When we reread a certain passage for the umpteenth time, suddenly it pierces past our minds into our hearts and it transforms us. Every word seems to have come immediately from heaven - We need to study and continually learn from it all our lives. Love, mercy and truth can never be redundant.
 
Christians often face trials too great for our natural strength and temptations which we do not have the power to resist without help. We are given Divine strength from the Holy Spirit and verbal ammunition as we memorize verses from God's Word. The believing heart is the endless residence of God, in which dwells all power, all love, and the mystery of the eternal Trinity. All this resides in each of our hearts that believe in Jesus!
 
Today’s meditation: Set your goal on God’s best for your life.

​                                                                        The Beautiful Path

Scripture Quote: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2 (NIV)
 
It's so easy to slip into conformity of this world. We work, shop, and interact with the lost daily. We must constantly draw on the power of the Holy Spirit to navigate. Without Him, we will fail to live up to the standard we know to be right. In Romans we are told to hate what is evil and cling to what is good, which is a simple thing when we are in the presence of God's people in the house of the Lord. Not so easy, however, out in the world where we must still participate.
 
But consider: Can we talk in an ungodly choice of words to blend in with man, then address our heavenly Father with praise and adoration on our stained lips? We do recognize and abhor blaspheming the name of God, but foolish talk and coarse joking abound in secular society till they almost seem normal to our ears. Are we children of the highest God, or fence sitters, taking part in the good along with the questionable? We can choose to jump off that fence where temptation hovers and fall into the arms of our loving Father, where purity and faithfulness guide and protect our minds and hearts from evil.
 
Today’s meditation: You are called to be like Jesus.

​                                                                That We All May Be One

Scripture Reading: John 17:20-26

Scripture Quote: "I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them." John 17:9-10 (NIV)
 
Christ's prayer for His church extends throughout all the generations and includes us today. Jesus asks for great blessings: unity, peace, love and eternal life. He wants us, as adopted children, to acknowledge Him as the Messiah, be saved by His sacrifice and be able to share His glory in heaven. It's a good bet that Jesus' prayer to the Father would have to be answered. He asked that we might be one, even as They are One.
 
That oneness is the part of us given by God that finds joy in sacrifice and ultraistic actions for others. When we feel compelled to bless another person on His behalf, we temporarily abandon the other, usually more dominant part in us that is selfish and controlling. Totally separate and unblemished by our usual character, this blessedness exists as a portion of the best we can be. Believers love and obey God because we know that someday we will be permanently changed and finally completely united with Christ in His kingdom of glory.
 
Today’s meditation: Thank God we are part of His forever family.
 
Memory Verse: Hebrews 2:11 (NIV) "Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters."

​                                                           Thank God We Are His Sheep

Scripture Quote:  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)
 
Believers are like a flock of sheep under the direction of our God, who condescends to be called the Shepherd of His people. We lack nothing under His provision because He has all power in heaven and earth. Our God knows our needs and His Grace leads us in the way we should go.  He protects us from our enemies just like a shepherd keeps his flock from being injured or killed by ravenous predators. If any of us stray from His path, He brings us back and gives us green pastures that are tranquil and always safe to rest upon.
 
As the sun gives earth power to revolve, Jesus, the Son, enables us through His power. We can walk in a godly manner, while illuminating His attributes through us, to a lost world. And even in the darkest valley, He sustains us against evil. His majesty is our comfort and assurance in the face of our enemies.  God never leaves His true followers because one day He wants us to dwell with Him in glory.
 
Today’s meditation: Sheep aren’t terribly bright – For this reason, the shepherd stays close by to keep them safe.

​                                                                 Testify & Trust

Scripture Quote: “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10 (NIV)

Most Christians have come across people that are obstinately resistant to the truth of the Gospel. They seem half asleep, with glazed over eyes, when you try to explain God's salvation plan. It might help to think of these reluctant people as sick, even deathly sick, but who are inexplicably afraid to be cured. They also have a fear of losing whatever they see as the fun in their lives. Our God of mercy and peace will leave them to their fun, though that is not His desire.
 
The bible says that the kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which man took and planted in his field. It goes on to say that though the mustard seed is the smallest of all seeds, when it grows, it eventually becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches. I take that to mean that our mustard seed worth of faith is meant to grow very large and then become a resource for others. It's not up to us to place that spark of faith within another's heart. We need only believe, grow in the knowledge of God and offer testimony to that faith as the Spirit leads us.
 
Today’s meditation: Speak up, gentle Christian, and share your hope.

Scripture Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8

Scripture Quote: My Father has given me everything, and he is the only one who knows the Son. The only one who truly knows the Father is the Son. But the Son wants to tell others about the Father, so that they can know him too. Matthew 11:27 (CEV)
 
Just as the Word tells us that faith is dead without works, knowledge is dead without practice. It is not enough that we have faith in the Word, because we also must bring that faith to life. It's not just about persevering until the end. We must also grow better and walk more closely with God in the now. Our knowledge of the Word needs to be practiced with accompanying actions that live it out in our day to day existence. To talk about our faith but not to live it out will never get us into heaven or help anyone else. The aim and ambition of every Christian should be to please God by our actions and to be accepted by Him as we share what we learn with others.
 
Let the wonderful kindness and the understanding that come from our Lord help us to keep on growing and actively contributing. This is the blessing held out to us in the Gospel. We are given justification through His blood, sanctification by His Spirit, and eternal glory because of His intercession. His Word breathes life into all who receive it and its up to us to keep it alive for the generations to come - Pass your faith on.
 
Today’s meditation: Share the Word by living it.
