God Is In Control

Scripture Reading for the day: Psalm 37

Scripture Quote: “A man’s steps are of the Lord: How then can a man understand his own way?” Proverbs 20:24 (NLT)

We are often confused by the events around us. Some things we will never understand until years later when we look back and see how God was working. Other things we may never understand until we are with God in heaven. But God has a special plan and purpose for our lives. Trusting that God’s direction for us is far better than we would choose for ourselves, we can try to live a life that models Christ – Cultivate justice, wisdom and integrity. As believers we must learn to trust God with everything, which requires strong commitment, obedience and patience.

God’s mercy and faithfulness are unsurpassed. His love endures forever. He will preserve and strengthen us as our trust in Him increases. We are safe to put our trust under the shadow of His wings. God is the fountain of life, giving us living water to drink so that we may know and understand His truth. God takes great pleasure in the prosperity of His children. Shout with joy and be glad and magnify the Lord.

Meditation for the day: Faith in Jesus is knowing Him personally and entrusting our eternal life into His hands.

Memory Verse: “the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.”  Psalm 37:23 (NLT)

His Excellency

Scripture Reading for the day: Psalm 95

Scripture Quote:“for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.” Psalm 95:6(NIV)

In Psalm 95:6, we read that the LORD is the greatest God and King over everything. His excellency as Creator is unmatched throughout the universe. Yet He would call us His own. In the Old Testament times, when idol worship and blatant disobedience prevailed, He still loved us. He wanted His people to come to Him with joy and gratitude. And even today, we also may approach our Heavenly Father with an indescribable gladness - Even though we fail Him repeatably, He has chosen us to follow Him and through Christ we are redeemed.

We are His sheep and He supplies our green pasture. God goes before us to set up the best possibilities despite Satan's efforts to the contrary. We stubbornly refuse His guidance so we can ignorantly, “do it our way,” only to find that we end up in more trouble than we can eradicate ourselves. Jesus has already experienced everything that we have. He is always close and willing to answer our call for help. We need only remember that our hope lies in His hands, not ours - And, that's pretty excellent!

Meditation for the day: “Hope springs eternal...” Alexander Pope   . Where does your hope come from?

Memory Verse: ”Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.” Psalm 95:6(NIV)

Jesus Is The Good Shepherd

Scripture Reading for the day:  John 10:1-18

Scripture Quote: “I have other sheep too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also and they will listen to my voice and there will be one flock with one shepherd.” John 10:14-16 (NLT)

A hired man will tend sheep for pay, but the true shepherd owns his sheep and does it out of love because he is committed to them. Jesus did not merely fulfill prophecy; he did everything that He did out of His abundant love for us. He was 100% willing to reach as many as He could while He was with us and then to pass the message of good news on to his apostles.

People tend to build fences. We like to section places off and make them our own, disinterested in what takes place outside our small realms. We think our own little section or group is blessed of God while the others are not - But Jesus will never be limited by our pathetic barriers. He wants to bless all His sheep, from every corner of the world. Christ’s glorious kingdom will come only after that last lost sheep has been found and brought into the flock.

Meditation for the day: No one could have killed Jesus without His consent and no one can speed up or alter in any way His plan for His church.

Memory Verse: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” John 10:11 (NLT)

God Is Unchangeable

Scripture Reading for the day: 2 Chronicles 33:7-13

Scripture Quote: “I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you from the land of Egypt so you would no longer be slaves. I have lifted the yoke of slavery from your neck so you can walk free with your heads held high.”  Leviticus 26:13(NLT)

We can sometimes feel that God is angry with us. We fear the lose of His love. On some subconscious level, we fear a whip behind His back or a fury that would forsake us if our sinfulness is too great. This is a perverse cartoon that is entirely untrue. God forgives as many times as you confess your sin and He forgets them forever. He loves us and that will never change.

Would our lives be different if we could really accept and experience total forgiveness?  We seem to hold on to our guilt even after we have confessed to our Father, God. Wouldn’t we love to stand innocent before our God? The thing is, we really can because of what Jesus has done for us. By confession and repentance that is genuine, God’s love for us, which is greater than our sin, blots it out. He is so fond of us that He is eager to forgive and restore communion with His children. God’s love is greater than any sin there is.

Meditation for Today: Are you willing to leave your sin at the feet of the throne of God?

Memory Verse: “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, have never abandoned anyone who searches for you.” Psalms 9:10  (NLT)

Follow In His Steps

Scripture Reading for the day:  Philippians 2:1-13

Scripture Quote: “For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps.” I Peter 2:21 (NASB)

We can walk with Christ each day, following His example of obedience to the Father. The more we think about emulating Jesus, the more our new disposition develops. Our path is joyful, full of love, which is all born from obedience. We demonstrate all this as our actions are a witness to all around us.

It is the attitudes of our mind that can change our behavior and thinking. Are we concerned for others and do we want to share the gospel as the gift of good news it really is? Can we help shine light into the darkness? We must have a heart that is willing to examine itself and make changes as the Holy Spirit leads us.

We all struggle with sin and pride and many past mistakes that can often make us feel broken inside. All these things can be relieved by simply turning them over to God. Trust deeply and drink deeply of the Living Waters - Following more closely in Jesus steps will become a permanant goal.

Meditation for the day: “The gospel is like fish. It must be caught fresh every day.” John Hall

Memory Verse: “I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For the proud will be humbled, but the humble will be honored.” Luke 18:14 (NASB)

Be An Overcomer

Scripture Reading for the day:  I Corinthians 16:15-18

Scripture Quote: “for there is a wide open door for a great work here, and many people are responding. But there are many who oppose me.” I Corinthians 16:9 (NASB)

God constantly gives us opportunities to move ahead in life. He is always with us, patiently waiting for us to grow closer and learn more. But whenever we move closer to God, there is always increased opposition from the enemy. God longs for us to reach our full potential and overcome the many temptations and obstacles Satan slams us with. He wants us to be overcomers.

When you step out in faith and the opposition comes, stand firm – Then, as you can, press on toward the goal. We must remember that Jesus is with us and that He is our source of strength. The price we pay now is nothing compared to the treasures that await us in heaven. Trust what God has promised all who love Him and obey His commandments.

Meditation for the day: “I learned that life is not just a destination but a journey. While the expedition can be long and arduous, it can be full of beauty and pleasure as well.” Wayne Holmes in, ‘The Heart of a Father’

Memory Verse: “but after we had already suffered and been mistreated in Philippi, as you know, we had the boldness in our God to speak to you the gospel of God amid much opposition.” I Thessalonians 2:2 (NASB)
